How Dermal Fillers Work
Frequently Asked Questions
How is contouring treatment performed?
The results can last from 3- 12 months for some fillers and upto 18 – 24 months of other fillers.
Do the injections hurt?
How will my skin look and feel immediately after treatment?
Most patients feel comfortable in resuming their normal activities following treatment. Temporary puffiness of the treated areas, however, should be expected.
What other special precautions are necessary?
All facial injections should be used with caution in people on immuno-suppressive therapy and in people with a history of allergic reactions. Be sure to tell your practitioner of any allergies you may have, and any medicines or treatment you are currently taking.
You must understand and appreciate the risk of bruising, which occasionally can be unpredictable. Although this bruising is only temporary, it needs to be considered and make up concealment many be needed. If you are using aspirin, or any similar medication, be aware that these may increase the bruising and bleeding at the injection site. If needed you should use Paracetamol for pain relief.

Can facial injections take the place of surgical procedures such as face-lifts and dermabrasion?
No. Injectable filler treatments are not meant for people who have excess facial skin, or for those who want a major resurfacing of the skin.
Does the correction last forever?
No. Top up injections will be needed to maintain maximum correction. Because the fillers are so similar to your own skin they will be altered by the same ongoing mechanical forces that caused the original skin depressions.
How often will I need a top up injection?
The time between injections varies from person to person. The injected material will eventually be absorbed and broken down, and that is why you need ongoing treatment to maintain the look you want. If you choose not to continue treatment, any remaining material is simply absorbed by your body over time, and your skin gradually returns to its natural contours.
Most patients who choose to receive top ups for lines or furrows do so within 3 to 24 months of the original treatment. For scars, and deeper depressions the time between top ups may be longer. Top up injections will help you maintain your correction and can provide a long-term solution to skin contour problems.
